A Tribute to Mikayla Raines of Save-A-Fox, and the Unseen Struggles of Living with Borderline Personality Disorder
A Heartbreaking Goodbye
I don’t even know how to start this… My heart is cracked wide open. 💔 Mikayla Raines, the radiant, sensitive soul behind Save-A-Fox Rescue, has died by suicide at just 29 years old. She lived with autism, depression, and borderline personality disorder. And she was bullied. Online. Ruthlessly. Relentlessly. The kind of cruelty that cuts straight through to the bone when you feel as deeply as she did.
And now she’s gone.
Mikayla wasn’t just a “content creator.” She was a light in this world. Mikayla Raines was a wife, a mother, a fierce protector of animals—having saved thousands of foxes and other fur-farm survivors through her rescue, Save-A-Fox. She lived in deep emotional connection with the animals she cared for… each one a relationship, a bond, a spark of purpose.
That spark has been extinguished—but only in body. Not in spirit. Not in legacy. Not in love.
To anyone who’s ever been accused of being “too sensitive”… this grief is for you, too. 🕯️
To those of us living with BPD or who have danced near the edge ourselves… we see you. We feel this. And we know: sometimes the weight of the world feels unbearable when your heart is as open as Mikayla’s was.
But even as I write through tears, I want to say this:
Mikayla Raines’ story will not be reduced to the way she died.
To Mikayla, a letter, from one sensitive soul to another:
Mikayla Raines, you were magic.
You turned trauma into purpose. You poured your gentleness and your fierce heart into every rescue, every fuzzy muzzle, every trembling creature who found safety in your arms. You showed us that being sensitive isn’t weakness. It’s strength, when wielded with compassion.
I wish the world had been softer with you. I wish the people who hid behind cruel comments could have seen the real cost of their words. I wish you knew how many of us cherished you.
But I hope you know now. I hope you’re surrounded by the love of every fox and animal you ever rescued, curled up beside you in peace.
Your daughter will grow up knowing her mama was brave. That she made the world a better place. That she mattered.
And she will know that the light you carried—the wild, sacred spark of your heart, continues to shine in every soul you’ve touched.
We won’t forget. We won’t let the silence swallow your story. We love you, Mikayla Raines.
